Hi, I was wondering if it is just me, or if everyone else goes through this.

I am trying to loose about 60 lbs, and I know that when the 60 lbs are gone that I probably won't be so sleepy all of the time. I usually go to bed around 2 am and then I can hardly get out of bed until 11:00. It stinks!!! I feel like the biggest slob ever. Once I get up I have no problem staying up. If I do get up at like 8:00 I about have to have a nap. I also have been eating pretty healthy and exercising the last three weeks. I hate feeling like this!!!:crying: Any advice???

If I'm not woken up by the phone or alarm clock or something, I will sleep for 13 hours.  I don't think its genetic, because neither of my parents sleep more than normal.  I think its because I've spent the past 10 years with no real reason to get up in the morning.  I sleep whenever I want for as long as I want, and that has resulted in me sleeping for long periods at a time.

Not to be ignorant but doesn't anyone have to be up to go to work or school or take the kids to school?

I don't want to get into what my life is like or my past, but I havn't been to school since I was 7.  I've never had a job, but just recently I've started trying to find one.  Let's not hijack Sunnygirl's thread :)

Not everyone's job or school starts at 8. A lot of jobs don't start until 2, 5, or 8, or even night shifts. I'm in school full time and my earliest class is on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays is at 11:00, and Tuesdays and Thursdays is at 1:25. When i waitress I either start at 5 in the morning or 2 in the afternoon.

I'm pretty tired waking up at 11 when I go to sleep at 2 sunnygirl (which I do often)... I just tell myself I need more sleep. Sleep isn't a bad thing... a lot of places around the world get waaaay more sleep than Americans consider "normal".

Maybe you could try taking some B vitamins? Or embrace coffee? Yes, coffee has caffeine which isn't good in too large of quanitities, but it does come from a plant and has a lot of antioxidants. So, I think in moderation it's good!

I don't know how some people can wake up at 8 and not feel tired all day.... maybe they do and just don't say it? I know when I wake up at 4:30 to waitress by 5 a.m. I'm extremely tired when I first wake up, but as soon as we get busy I'm wide awake and it lasts until around 2 or 3 when it dies down... then I just wanna take a nap. Are naps so bad though as long as you're getting your sh*t done? Just consider it your beauty rest

Thank you VegaObscura, and Sara for your kind words and advice.

Sara, I have heard about b vitamins, and I try to have them every day. They are wonderful and they really seem to help clear my head and have more energy. I normally only get them through food or those Naked smoothies though and not in a pill form. I probably should up them and make sure I am getting the daily recommended amount. As for coffee, I will have to give that a try. Thanks:grin:
VegaObscura, I can sleep through about anything except for kids. My husband has 3 alarm clocks that he sets, and 99.9 % of the time I sleep through all of them. Lol
I have to say that I took nap today and I am still tired now.:dizzy: Maybe I should cut out all sugar or go to bed earlier or both. Lol

Nope, not single, just love my sleep . Don't most studies show 8 hours is what your brain needs? I don't know if there would be any negative side effects on your body from 7 hours sleep, I kinda doubt it. I think rest can be very curing for a lot of things though (at least for me)!

My boyfriend teases me a lot for it. I usually wake up with him when he does to go to work and pack his lunch and all that, then go back to sleep. I'm usually still sleeping by the time he eats that lunch at 10:30. I figure I'll have to wake up early when we start having kids... so I'll get it while I still can!

I hope you find the coffee and B vitamins helpful sunnygirl .

Sunnygirl, it doesn't sound like you're really sleeping that much.  If you go to bed at 2 am and get up at 11 am, that's just 9 hours of sleep.  I've read studies that different people need different amounts of sleep and that 8 hours isn't always enough for some people.  Nine hours may just be what your body needs.  Perhaps it feels like you sleep more than you do because your sleep schedule is later.  Maybe you just need to adjust your sleep schedule to go to bed earlier so you can wake up earlier.  I was a total night owl but due to necessity I had to switch my sleep schedule around and now I go to bed at 8 pm and get up at 4 am.  So, it can be done.

Aaw, I was hoping your problem would be more similar to mine so we could both get some help...

My big issue is not that I sleep too long. I can go to bed at 10:00 p.m, wake up at 3:00 a.m and still feel fine. Sometimes I question whether or not I really even NEED to sleep.

I'm a total morning person, too. I have energy to do things, but for some reason I feel like I'm lacking the will---if that makes any sense.

Maybe it's not that I'm tired, just lazy. I used to be able to get around to doing a lot, but now I'm procrastinating like crazy. It's almost painful to have to do anything.

I guess it's just because I have had estrogen issues in recent months...making life extremely difficult. Perhaps your issue could be hormonal??

I do have some days where I am really tired... especially when the days are shorter and it gets dark early!

I also know that if I allow myself, I could probably sleep most of the day.  So, if I am starting to think that I have slept enough, I just make myself get up, I will even give myself a pep talk to get my butt out of bed.

Or off the couch.  I sure do love me some couch sleep!

I can usually get through the day now with a lot less sleep than I used to.  When I was heavier I was tired a lot.  I could nap anytime of the day.  Now I'm bouncing everywhere.  I have tons of energy.

1seekspie,

You mentioned that you have estrogen problems... would you mind describing those problems and what you did to remedy them? I'm curious to see if maybe I experience the same effects and I'm sure there are some other people here that would be interested to hear as well. Thanks.

Your best recovery times are between 10pm-2am. So sleeping during those times allows for your recovery hormones to kick in and your body gets the best rest then. You have to follow you circadian rhythms and do what our ancestors did. Also are you exercising regularly? The best time is in the morning around 7-9am. Try sticking to a routine from one of these sites: pumpone.com, trainerpack.com, fitness.com. If you go to bed on time and exercise regularly you should be well rested and energized.

I wish I could sleep more. I can't get to sleep at night cause of my thyroid meds. Then I have to be up at 5am for work. So, I get what I can, when I can.

If you have the time to sleep sunnygirl, then I would take advantage of it and sleep.

I get most night on average six hours. If I sleep more than that or go to bed early, then I am up two or three times in the night.

I wouldn't stress about it. I too feel sluggish a lot of the time, Right now, I'm at home taking care of my infant son. I get 7 hours of sleep on average but I'm usually wiped midday and need a nap. One thing I'm trying to do on a more consistent basis is take vitamins. I do have about 30 more lbs to lose and I'm hoping I will have more energy as a result. But for now, I sleep when I can.
