I've been bouncing back and forth between deciding on a treat day or incorporating a treat food any day I feel like it.  Today I tested myself.

A lady offered me a slice of old fashioned dark fruitcake, something I haven't had in years.  I had it for dessert tonight with my coffee and I told myself it did NOT give me reason to spend the evening eating...and I didn't  I actually listened to ME

This may be trivial to some but it was huge for me ...I did the dance of joy...ahem, realizing of course maybe some days I'll be weaker BUT today I did it baby !!!!!

Felt darn good to be disciplined, I hate that food runs my life:angry:

One bite at a time :apple:

Congratulations. I know it can seem trivial to other people (namely skinny ones) but it's exiting for you & it should be celebrated

I woke up in the night thinking how juvenile I sounded in my excitement about eating the fruitcake and leaving it at that but this morning I feel pretty darn good

If I shared this with people that can't relate they'd be like...what the ??????????

Lucky me for finding all of you

Thank you Scribbler.  If I could do this more often and learn to relax with food ...wahooooooooooo !

Do you control your treats on a daily basis or have an all out treat day ?

I suppose certain celebration times would call for "extras" once in awhile for most of us.

I did abstain for four years, not a single calorie went into my mouth unless it was on my eating plan, but my daughter pointed out that isn't realistic if my healthy eating...I don't like the word diet, tried way too many and did the yo-yo thing....way of living was a lifetime thing. She is right, now to learn control when I do have that certain something : )

Congratulations

I actually just made a similar post about this.  I do sort of have a "treat day".  I didn't choose a day or anything, but as per tradition my wife and I go out every Friday night.  We love seeing movies, so every Friday we either go out and pick up food and come back home to watch a movie or go to a restaurant and then go to see one at the cinema.

You know what that means.  Movie theater popcorn.  I love it and can't watch a movie in a theater without munchies.  We get it without butter, but it's still a ton of empty calories and fat.  We compromise by sprinkling some butter seasoning on it.

If we go home for a movie then there's almost always ice cream involved.  To make it worse, it's Cold Stone ice cream.  If you don't know what that is it's ice cream with all sorts of mix-ins you can add.  My favorite is cake batter ice cream, white chocolate chips, caramel and Heath bar.  It tastes great, but it's about 800 calories.

I also enjoy their "diet" ice cream like the Raspberry sorbet and Tart & Tangy (like Lemon Ice) with strawberries.  Those are about 200-300 calories and no fat.

So Friday night I treat myself to something sweet.  I came to the conclusion that I can't deprive myself of my favorite things indefinitely.  You only live once.  Moderation and control is the key.  All week I eat very well, so I let myself have fun when we go out

I think it's very helpful and important to have a general idea of the nutrition facts of whatever you eat.  If you know the calories and fat, you're more likely to be able to control your eating.  Works for me at least.  That way you know that if you're high on calories then maybe that night isn't the night for that slice of pie, but you can plan your meals for the next day to include it!

Thanks Chrism.  You are right,  we do need treats no matter what our age.  You do it in a good manner, you know what you want and you have it. PLus you haven't let your healthy eating deny you sharing pleasant outings with your wife.

I just ate to eat on treat day,  I need to give it some thought if I choose to do that and have something really worth the calories to me. One thing for sure, my treats will be consumed when I want them and not at someone else's suggestion.

I have learned never again to eat anything to please anyone else.  It shocked me how many friends and family tried without thinking to sabotage me when I was losing my weight.  Did they feel sorry for me ? or were they threatened by the new me that was happening ?  They finally gave up now that I've lost and had five years of maintenance.

One person had the nerve after trying to get me to eat when I was big, to saying to me not long ago when I did have a treat food in their presence...hey, should you be eating that !!!

EXCUSE ME

My brother told me this summer ...you're too thin:shock: like those were words I ever expected to hear   I LOVED IT

My point to this ramble is as I said earlier, how wonderful it is to find people that KNOW what I'm going through. All of your input is so valuable because you understand.

First off! Congrats!!! That is so great that you controlled the food instead of the other way around.

I have always been one to just have a treat now and then. If I had a whole day, I would totally go overboard...

Anyway, congrats again...

I don't think it's trivial at all.  I totally understand.  It's all or nothing for me.  If every night I could say just one cookie, I'd have it made, but if I have one I usually have the whole bag.
