ok, my situation isn't very extreme, but I really do wanna get under a certain number (it's simply the number I picked, no real specific reason for it).
I am 26 years old, 6'1'' and weigh 180 lbs. I've got some chub around the stomache and chest area and would love to lose it. Now, I know there's really no way to target weight loss, but losing roughly 10-15 lbs would make me happy regardless. My target number was 165. I figured 15 lbs in 2 months shouldn't be impossible.
The thing is, I'm pretty clueless as to what foods to eat, when and why. I know what foods *not* to eat and I do a pretty good job at that. I don't drink soda (although I used to, big time. It was crippling to beat that habbit, but I did it). I don't eat much suger based foods at all (and when I do it's like a special occasion). I mainly eat eggs in the morning, tuna-fish (or similar foods) for lunch, an apple or 2 between meals and then dinner.
What I am really looking for, is how to make up a specific list of foods to eat during the day. I'm a list oriented person when it comes to myself (I'm a Virgo) so I like to have a set outline for what to do each day. Along with that I am trying to figure out what exercises I can do at home (without equipment or a gym membership, although I am getting a membership to a gym next year when I can afford it).
So my questions are; what foods are very good to eat daily? these are things I am going to make my mainstay grocery items. What's a great breakfast item, lunch item and dinner item? maybe things in between (I've read that eating often through the day will speed up your metabo.). And finally what are some good exercises I can do at home? (running is one that I do semi-regularly).
so, thanks for reading and I appreciate any feedback.

Pretty much any fruits and veggies
Nuts are way healthy for you, but don't eat to many, high calories
Start to buy light butter and light other things that you eat on a regular basis. I get fat free miracle whip, omega based light butter and oils, light salad dressings, etc.
Whole grains for breakfast. So something like cheerios, oatmeal, whole wheat toast.
Beans, high fiber food will help with dieting.
lentil is good also, I make a mean lentil soup
Fish and turkey are a staple in my diet...
For sweets, I try to stick with things like low cal fudge pops, low cal pudding snacks, fat free ice cream, or just plain old fruit, frozen fruit is always tasty, things of that nature.
Snack stuff- I get pretzels, diet chips, baked chips, and of course veggies, like carrot sticks, etc. I also make or buy bean dips for the chips instead of the high cal. sour cream ones or the cheese ones. I also eat cheerios and walnuts for a snack. You can also make low cal granola bars.
Exercise, you can get some hand weights and do those, pushups, aerobics is a great calorie burner, crunches, walking, running in place, leg lifts, squats, pilates, exercise balls. There are so many things, just got to find what you like to do.
Other things to consider- Try grilling and baking most of your items, avoid frying.
I would also try to make most of your meals yourself and avoid pre package stuff. They are usually high in sodium.
Anyway, Thats all I can think of for now....Good Luck!

Hey, I can tell you that losing 15 pounds in 2 months is very possible.
A list of foods you should eat and not eat:
Do eat oatmeal every morning. This is a great source of fiber, lowers cholesterol and reduces fat.
If you don't like oat meal, drink a fruit smoothie in the morning. Buy some frozen fruits, your favorite kind of 100% juice, and some honey. Blend these ingredients in your blender. This is a great morning meal that is healthy. If you do this every morning, you will surely lose some weight.
Try to eat light during the day (fruits, sandwiches, veggie burgers taste great). Eliminate heavy meats, white bread, white flour, lots of cheese, and fried foods as much as you can.
The gym is going to be a major factor in your weight loss. If you can't go, try to do some excercises around the house like push-ups, sit-ups before you go to sleep.

The food pyramid makes a pretty good list. e.g.
8 serves grains/cereals (choose whole grains as much as you can)
5 serves vegetables
2 serves fruit
1-2 serves of meat, or similar (eggs, tofu), trim all visible fat.
1-2 serve low-fat dairy
2-3 tbsp plant oils (e.g. nuts, olive oil)
limit other fats/sweets/sugars
Arrange them through your day as suits you.
The key is knowing how big a serve is for each type of food. You also might need more or less grain/oil serves to get the right calories. I think that is about 1500 calories worth.
