xio... at my age, I've lost aunts and uncles and sisters-in-laws and grandparents and my mother... my beautiful mother.  I can say this... they don't leave us.  I've seen them.  They come back now and then just to check in.  It's all going to be okay.  You don't have to believe in Christianity or Hinduism or whatever...  what I've learned - through personal experience - is that what is... is.   I know they're with me now.

Love to you.

EVERYONE......Some of your Thanksgiving stories are very entertaining....I also get stuck with dishes but have recently learned to get past my pride and spoiled family members by saying"would you come over here and help me"
and they do.... you just have to ask! I only ate one plate of food for TG but it was of course more than the diet ever allows at one setting not to mention all the little bites of this and that I had while I was cooking.....the result was that
I felt bloated and almost sick....and will be glad to get back to the next cycle on Monday.....also going to sushi tonight but its not much of a problem since
I stay away from the rice and have sashimi and sunamono salad.

I did manage to lose 2 1/2 lbs on the last cycle in spite of a few alterations....I might have gained back 1/2 lb because of TG........I am trying to establish some personal guidelines for Xmas...I so love to make cookies and put them in wonderful tins and this year I have some great jars to put my homemade granola in(people die for it)....the problem is I always taste these things while I am making them.....I am sure some of you have made Greek wedding cookies or Mexican....they have many names....and they are so light and powdery that you just inhale them and don't realize how many you ate(in the name of I have to make sure they are good enough)........
I WILL BE MINDFUL.........I will, I will, I will(OMG....I sound like Julie xxxxing Andrews or The Little Train that could!

Deanna - The "Greek Wedding Cookies" you spoke of are the recipe I gave to Hazleyez a couple nights ago, only my recipe is called "Russian" Tea Cakes", same thing as "Mexican Wedding Cakes", etc.  They have many names, like you said.  I was going to make them for Thanksgiving, as I went to the store to get all the ingredients, but I didn't have time.  I have been wanting to make them all weekend, but have been busying myself with cleaning and reorganizing instead.  They ARE like heaven, aren't they?  I have made them every year for the past 30+ years and I think they are my favorite cookie ever.  Now I want to make them even more, but I think subconsiously I am doing other things as I am afraid I could not get through a batch without tasting one (who am I kidding, one is just a teaser!).  I can be very good with most other things, but not these.  Maybe I could get YOU to make them for me this year, and wrap them as well, that way I won't be tempted! hehehe

For all you Russian, Mexican and wedding cookie fans...I make Date Nut Balls...I have for years....I got the recipe from my mom who made them all my life.  Even if you hate dates...which many people do...everyone loves these....we chop up dates finely and walnuts or pecans and add them to the butter cookie dough...roll into a small walnut sized ball...bake...roll in powdered sugar...cool and roll again.

Enough talk of those yummy cookies! They really are called all those names...every nationality has a version. Sunshine, your date balls sound great.....I don't like dates, but you totally redeemed them by adding the sugar cookie dough. I hope you are all having a great weekend! Xio, I am sorry about your aunt also. My great uncle passed away last week, so I know exactly how you are feeling.....Your family will be in my prayers. Well guys, I'll see ya in the morning! Yikes, almost forgot to post the FFFs weight loss results for this last cycle!!  Here is the link... http://www.caloriesperhour.com/forums/view_topic.php?id=7256&forum_id=3&jump_to=107014

Only 4 people reported in, as far as I can tell, so if there is anyone else, please let me know and I will add it to these totals.  Good for you FFFs, even with Thanksgiving in the way, you still did it!

A quick hello before bed--

Xio, so sorry for your loss; I hope your family's doing okay...

And on a less solemn note, Web, I think you meant SVs when you said FFFs, regarding posting losses. I'm not actually officially anything (SV or FFF) but I'm following the same schedule as the SVs, and we're the ones who just weighed in...I think?...

And I hear you all about those darn delectable cookies. In my family, they're known as snowball cookies, and they are simply scrumptious. I do like dates, though, and like the sound of yours, SS! Yum!

More tomorrow!

Sweet dreams, everyone!

Slim - I knew there was someone else!  Thank you so much. I will go right now and add Amjacie.  How could I forget her????

About diet sodas... I recently read a new study article that found diet sodas to actually be BAD for weight loss, as they make you crave more sweet (sugar).  Besides, diet sodas are sooooo bad for you period.

Hi Dear Slim!!:bug:  I second Web...I've read that artificial sweeteners cause weight gain.  There was a study of people who drank diet soda and they weighed more than the dieters who did not...weird...I think it has to do with the artificial sweetener causing the body to think it just consumed sugar and put out insulin and then it finds there is no sugar to digest. It is an interesting question!  Prevention Magazines website often has good links to articles on topics like this.

 Good morning all.

I have had a great weekend but am happy to report a 2.8lb gain.  Thanks Web and Glenda for your support and advice on this.  I had a lot on this weekend so am really happy I did not go mad!! I am now 13.2.6 and was 12.13.8 so goal for this cycle is to get into the 170s - I am 184.6 just now.

Lots of posts over the weekend - liked you telling Larry off!! Also the cookie posts and I have an image in my head of Web drinking her brandy, singing Christmas songs and decorating the tree - fantsatic!

Xio - sorry about your aunt.

SV's well done on your losses, off we go again day 1! FFFs veg day - you are nearly there.

Good Morning Everyone,

I've started back again today, also got my DH to join me this time hoping to loose a little before our Christmas trip to Maine in a few weeks. I was able to maintain my weight loss for the last month (surprisingly) till Thanksgiving and then only gained 2 lbs.

Glad to be back with you,

Snowbird

:sun: Good Morning All :sun:

My 'name' is in print.  Am I famous?  Thanks Jane for the invite and Web for adding me to the SVs list.  Starting Day 1 of Cycle 2 having gained 1.4 lbs. over cheat days (4 1/2 cheat days to get on board with the SVs).  Looking forward to a good cycle. I greatly enjoyed a dinner out with the hub and slices of pumpkin pie.  However I am sooo... craving those Swedish Balls (as my mom called them) you all have been typing about.  Good thing they are not made and in the house during this cycle 'cause I have very little willpower :nono: over those sorts of goodies.  Guess what I'll be making on my next cheat days? :yum:  Love the idea of cheat days and, for me, I think I appreciate the outings or goodies more because it's not daily, it's a treat. Maybe I'll start calling them 'treat days'.

Xio, I am so sorry for your loss.  My Mom & Dad both passed on in the past few years and I miss them terribly but I am also so grateful having them in my life. Lots of memories to make me smile and you will smile with your memories one day too.

So I leave anyone who has had a loved one pass on with this .. ..

When someone you treasure becomes a memory .. ..

yeah so does anyone know if the 3000calories equals one pound thing holds true during the cheat days of this diet? because apparently when i weighed myself this morning i gained 12lbs in 3 freaking days! Which i really dont think is humanly possible. That would mean that i ate 42000 calories in 3 days 14000 calories a day... not possible. i dont think 12lbs of water eight is possible either. ill weigh myself again tomorrow morning.

looks like next cheat days i will be sticking to the diet with a couple added foods... thank god i have nothing going on that weekend, it will make it easier not to cheat too horribly. how frustrating. i could blame it on the scale and say its not working.

Slim - Yes, you can use agave in warm/hot drinks.  It is like honey only not as thick so dissolves easier.  I have been using agave for over a year now (maybe 2 years) and love it.  Although, since I have been on the diet I can't say I use it as much.  I use Stevia instead, it is a natural herb, sugar free, calorie free and only 1 gram carb per packet (1g) with no artificial anything.  I also find I don't use as much Stevia as I would have sugar.

Jane - You did great these last cheat days!  I, on the other hand, did worse, and gained 3.5 lbs. (must have been the brandy and nog), so I am starting with the SVs today, too!

Snowbird - So happy to see you back and glad to have you on the team again!  That will be fun, encouraging, and supportive having your DH join you.

Believe - Great job on your minimal gains over Thanksgiving! :star:

Hazleyez -!!! All I can say is !!!  Holy moly! 12 lbs??? I don't think that is possible! You must have an issue with your scale (I know I would!) But seriously, how accurate is the scale, because that just doesn't sound right!  I would not panic.  Weigh yourself again tomorrow and see what it says.  Yikes!  It can't be you, really!

SVs - Off we go!  FFs - Good luck with the rest of your cycle. Have a great day everyone!

hey eveyone,

I have been out of town for the past 5 days without any internet access so I am just starting to catch up. I think I am going to just stop this cycle and restart on my next cycle. I only followed the first 2 days. I am not going to go crazy, I am going to try and maintain my current weight and hopefully get one really good cycle in before Christmas.

I hope everyone is doing well,

Slim - Uh... just read something a little upsetting about Stevia, so you may want to read this first... http://www.cspinet.org/nah/4_00/stevia.html

Now, there is no documented proof it has done any harm in 30 years of use in Japan, but still something to be aware of, just in case.  Ugggh! Is there anything we can use that is absolutely SAFE?  I may just go and live with the Amish people!

hzleyes...When we add carbs and sugars back into our diet the fat cells take on water...depending on how much extra weight we are carrying.

Also there is something that the experts are calling "false fat" which is inflammation in the body that is caused by eating a food that our body is intolerant to...sort of like a food allergy.  If I eat gluten...I rapidly put on weight....my tummy bloats and I swell all over...joints hurt etc....it can happen in days.  Perhaps you have a "hidden" food intolerance to wheat or corn or sugar or ???...something that you added back in over choice days.  I would stick to the DG foods on next choice days and choose your treat meals carefully and observe any reactions you might have. Just a thought!  I discovered my gluten intolerance while on this plan...never knew it was causeing me so many problems until I went off each cycle!!

B2D...enjoyed your verse...very touching!

Snowbird...it is GREAT to see you back with us again!!

Aly...good going Girl!!

Jane...well done on choice days...you are getting close to the 170's...I am cheering for you!!  Can you hear me faintly across the Atlantic??? heehee

Web and Slim...I stopped using the stevia as often after I read some disconcerting news months ago...I thin NO artifical sweeteners are good for the body...saccarhine is less harmful as far as documention over 60 years with diabetics...but even it is has consequences  in quantity...I have learned to drink my tea without sweetener unless it is a carb/fruit/veg meal(never a protein meal) and then I add agave. That's my take on it.

Hello ALL of you out there in fl4i land:tongue:!

Yay...Snowbird! Good to see you! Great to see all of you! I have to add my half a cent on the diet soda thing.....I do have diet soda maybe once or twice a cycle. I know they are awful for you, but it's kinda like that "in case of emergency break glass"....I use it as a tool to keep me from devouring all the sweets in sight, or even going to the store to look for more! It has helped me out, so I will keep some handy. I'd rather have a diet Dr. Pepper than a whole cake! On that note, I am so disappointed to report a 2lb gain overnight! I stuck to the plan exactly yesterday, and I went to Knotts Berry Farm, the fried chicken capital of LA, and didn't even stop in the bakery...maybe I didn't drink enough water? I have been drinking more decaf.....but I don't add anything. Darn fluctuations can be so disheartening...anyway......Hazl.....12lbs is a lot, weigh again in the morning. If it is in fact true.....it will be gone in the next couple days. Just keep on with the water! The first cheat day experience can be tough, but we all learn from it. Have a wonderful day!

Hi!  I'm new today to this whole diet and this website so bear with me while I get my "sea legs" on how to post, etc.

I have a question - I have IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) - do any of you have any suggestions regarding how to live with this along with this diet.  The staple diet of people that suffer with this is bananas, rice, bread, - basically starchy foods that are easy on the stomach - I'm not used to all this protein and roughage and have a little apprehension - So far, today, I'm good - keeping my fingers crossed  - Can you use "citrucel" on this diet?  The one I use is the smoothie one that has 37 calories - it coats my stomach before I eat anything non-soluble and makes it easier to digest.  Thanks for any pointers!  Laurie/Alleysantiques

Hi Al....welcome to the plan and the forum!  You may be surprised how well you tolerate this plan...if you read my post above you will see that I had a hidden food intolerance...you may too....and this diet may reveal what is causing your inflammation and IBS.  Choose the fiber product that works...but choose the one with the least sugars if possible.  Also if you know that a certain food bothers you...do not choose it on the menu.  Just keep asking questions...we'll help all we can!

Hi Laurie, welcome to the forum. I'm not to sure on the Citrucel how it would affect your overall losses. But what others here do is psyllium...just plain, mixed in liquid. I do know you want to use a supplement that does not add sugar...even the artificial stuff too, if possible. Seeing that it is your first cycle, try it once around to see how your body reacts. Then if needed, add the extras and go from there. With not altering the first cycle, you get a baseline of what to expect in future cycles. After that, you can experiment with adding new foods, supplements ect. I hope this helps! Good luck, and we are all here to help with all your questions!

Hi All!

Sorry about the extra large print this a.m.  Typed before my first cup of coffee and apparently I needed the caffine to see . Wow, that little face is pretty close to how I do look in the morning pre coffee.  Really looking forward to fruit day :apple: tomorrow 'cause I haven't been able to clean out my plumbing (I think you know to what I'm referring) since the day after my last fruit day (even with the extras eaten over my 'treat days' so I'm suprised & a bit uncomfortable).  I may be looking back on the forum for the info on the psyllium if this continues.  Maybe next time I should pick more menu items higher in fiber.  Debating if I should be sending out such a poopy :nono:(or is it ie) post.  Oh well, if anyone takes offense I apologize in advance.

Hang in there all you losers!

Laurie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  It's me, Margo!  I am so glad you made it to the forum!  So you started the diet?  YAY!  You will love the forum and all the wonderful people here.  It will really help with the diet.

Friends, this is my friend Laurie.  I haven't seen Laurie since, hmmm... at least a couple years I think.  But we have kept in touch through email and I sent her the "before and after" pictures of me.  Laurie first knew me before I gained all that weight.  So she got excited by the pics, and wanted to know how I lost the weight.  Of course, you know me... I am a walking spokesperson for FL4I.. hehehe.  She is a very beautiful and wonderful person, and I am so happy she is here!  You will all love her!

Hzleyez - Mmmm chicken, cheese and salsa... that sounds yummy!  Who needs the tortilla?

Alycat - The holidays is an awful time to start dieting, and sometimes we can set ourselves up for failure during this time.  So if you can commit to sneaking in a cycle before Christmas, that would be great, and you can still enjoy the celebrations without too much guilt.  New years resolutions to lose weight are often hard to keep, but not with FL4I.  They are a breeze so nothing to worry about!  I think many of us look forward to the cycle after Christmas, as we have a solution that actually works.  Whatever you decide, I am sure it will all work out fine.

I have another story to tell about the market I shop at... A couple nights ago, I saw this one grocery clerk who I hadn't seen in a while.  She was training at another store, and hadn't seen me in a couple months.  So I went there on Thursday (Thanksgiving) to pick up a couple things, and she said "You did your hair different".  I said "No".  So she said, "Oh, then your makeup?"  And I said, "No", and she said, "Well what is it then?!"  I said, "I lost 45 pounds!"  And she said OMG, that is it!  She said she couldn't pinpoint it until I said it and then it was so obvious.  I told her, "Don't feel bad, one of your coworkers said the same thing not long ago" (that my hair was different), so that is funny that they BOTH said the same thing! hehehe  So she asked how I lost it and I told her FL4I, and she laughed (like many people do when you say the name).  So I stopped there after work today, and she said to me "I was thinking about you all day, and I think I WISHED you here!".  I started laughing and she said she wanted the name of the diet again as she is going to get it tomorrow.  She is so excited!  I am excited, too!

FL4I is like the gift that keeps on giving!!!  Look how many people it touches.  It starts with YOU, then people who see you, then people who see them... etc., etc.  I have never seen this kind of response to a diet before.   Anyways, I just had to share.

Margo you are my inspiration!!!  Well, I made it thru the first day- it was actually really easy and I wasn't hungry - I babysit my grandkids in the late afternoons till about midnight - so my nighttimes are my "scouring the house for carbs or sweets" time and it is the hardest for me- I'm feeling like something sweet right now but think I'll go have some tea - Fruit day tomorrow  will be good- Thanks for the great welcome!

Morning gang,

Hope I find you all well.

Nice to welcome you Laurie, glad to have you join our forum and fantastic that it’s through our very own Webfairy.  I hope you have as much success as she has had.

Jane – glad you survived through your cheat days.  I have my cheat gain off this morning so it’s all go now for a really good cycle.

I’ll just have time to fit in one more cycle before Christmas which should get me well into the 140’s, I was 153.2lbs this morning.  I’m hoping I can control myself, ‘cos it sounds like there’s gonna be a full week of Christmas eating.  It starts on Cristmas Eve with a party at my Mum’s – all finger buffet food, but then we always run the calories off by playing musical chairs and other similar games.  (she has a big kitchen).  And the eating just seems to continue right through to New Years.  So I’m starting my New Years FL4I on Jan 5.  That of course may change if I find I’ve gained too much.

Snowbird – good to hear from you again and super support from your DH. Hope he has good success too.

Alycat – One good cycle before Christmas can make all the difference – here’s hoping!!

Hzl - 12lbs?? eek, I hope your scales made a mistake and hopefully when you step on this morning you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Sunshine - thanks for your kind thoughts and prayers and I believe I will have a good Christmas.  Thinking of you in the sale of your house and praying all goes smoothly for you.

Hi Kitty, Web, Larrie, Zeva, Deanna, Xiomi, Cubs, Believe, Joanne, Kellyanne, Losing, Slimneel, Amjacie and hope I haven't missed anyone, have a lovely fruit day all you SV's and yeah FFF's you're almost there.  My doesn't the time fly.

 Good morning all.

Fruit day for SVs - I will get through it :apple: - it is the only day I struggle with but have good will power and will not cheat.  The kids will have pasta for lunch - that I will make - so it is tempting! however I did it 100% last fruit day so will do again.

Christmas/holidays - well my plan is actually to carry on right through not that I expect to lose a lot - if anything - but I think it will keep me on the straight and narrow.  We have a meal out 19th, a  party the 21st - all day then my cheat days are 25,26 and 27 although may try and do 24,25 and 26 as we have lots on the 24th too.  Then after that at the moment we only have New Year's eve and day which will be boozy and lots of eating.  I do feel if I take from Dec 25th until Jan 5th off I wil gain my usual 7lb!! :pig: so I am going to try and do a cycle.

Web - It is so lovely when people notice your loss.

Glenda - well done on your losing your CG I hope mine will be gone by tomorrow.

I hope everyone has a good day.

Jane SV

Hi Everyone, thanks for the warm welcome back. Yesterday I missed my last meal as my stomach was upset, barely got in the third one, what a way to start !! Hopefully fruit day will "clean me out" hehe. I sure hope my DH does well too. His downfall will be the water. He always has to have a sweetened drink and here in the south that means sweet tea!!! I keep telling him he doesn't promote his product very well as he drills water wells for a living!!! He has had to go off artificial sweeteners as we think they were the cause of his migraines, especially aspartaine(sp). Yesterday he tried Splenda for his coffee,so far so good.

When I was in Seattle visiting my daughter my goal was to find a pair of jeans, well I was able to get 2 pair and one was a size 4. I have never worn a size 4 in my life!!! After we got to Florida we went to a birthday party for one of my Jazzercise friends and they all said " you look great!! what are you doing?" of course I told them all about FL4I and some said I want to know more about it.

i lost 7 lbs yesterday! ha ha ha i wish, i really think my scale is just being screwy but as long as the reading keeps getting lower i will be very happy. So yesterday it said 164 and today 157. I'm going to weigh myself tomorrow after fruit day, if it varies by too much between the 3 days i know i need a new scale.

Wow, you've all been a bunch of busy little bees! While I was enjoying Holiday festivities and my daughter's B-day on Sunday, I missed 2 and a half pages of posts. Gees Louise!

Glenda - I am very sorry about your 1/2 llb gain....but I felt less bad for you when I read that you were at 153.2! Holy Moly!!! ***Happy Dance*** You'll be in the 140's for sure after next cycle. As for me, I didn't manage to catch up. Actually, I gained a few pounds and found out that my scale is WAY farther off than I thought. My grandmother, who is a bit sick battling cancer at the moment (She's sort of in remission, so it's good...but she still has to monitor herself, see doctors often, etc) - well, anyway...her scale is right on point with her Dr's office scale. She brought it to the office and had them calibrate it for her. Anyway, I weighted in AFTEr eating for a few hours on Thanksgiving...so this isn't exactly an accurate number - but - I was 167! EEK!!!! That means my scale is at least 10 pounds off! Which explains a lot, actually. I kept thinking "I know I've lost weight and I know I feel good...but I don't feel like low 150's"...and I was right! Unfortunately. So, it looks like we're actually not even in a position to compete anymore...because I'm not where I thought I was. But I WILL get there. Anyway, congrats to you again. I'm VERY proud of you.

Web - Thank you so much for the firm encouraging words. I really NEED that. I've been off the diet for a while, but do plan on getting another cycle in before Christmas. Thanksgiving was this past week, then my daughter's Bday party on Sunday and then my Bday is on Friday...so this week is another wash. But...I will do another cycle after my birthday so I can hopefully lose a little bit before Christmas.

I hope everyone else is well, too. Sorry I haven't been around - but this past week has been CRAZZZZZY. :dizzy: *Hugs* to you all!!!!!!!!
