finished the 11 days lost 11 pounds, went thru my cheat days  and only put back on one pound. From what I read here that isnt too bad.  Started my second 11 day cycle today. Hardest part is drinking my water the rest of this diet is really pretty easy. Lisa

11 Lbs is awesome! And only gaining 1 lb on the cheat days is great too.

I gained 4 lbs back on my cheat days, but it's gone now. I must admit that getting back on the wagon after the 3 days off has been tricky. I've been cheating here and there (took the kids and myself for ice cream the other day) but I'm still losing.

I agree that this is a pretty easy way to eat. I can see sticking with it for the long term. But I still get freaked out by some of the high fat meals generated for me. Who would have thought you could eat cashews and macadamia nuts as a meal and lose weight?!

Good luck and continued success on cycle 2

thanks for the reply ! I knew it was possible to eat high fat and lose due to my atkins days but I didnt think you could ever eat carbs with high fat and lose. That is why I like this one so much more. The menus are a bit bizzare with things I would never put together but oh well. Good luck to you !! Off to drink my water and walk on my treadmill.  Lisa

Hi All,

When I choose Milk from my food list and generate a diet, my milk portion is Low fat milk - if I use Skim milk as a replacement would this be a train smash...

Skim Milk is lower in Carbs and Fat, but would this upset the working of the diet?

Thanks for the assistance.

Skim milk is low fat to the extreme.  Good for you.

I don't think this is a problem at all!

You do need a certain amount of fat in your diet to function properly.  But I bet you're getting enough anyway.

Unless you drink copious amounts of milk, the difference between skimmed and low fat shouldn't hamper your progress.

It's hard to be accurate and exact about what you take in all the time.  Don't treat this stuff as a magic formula.  It's just a way of getting your system back on track.

try to constantly ask yourself "am I hungry" and slow down if the answer changes from "yes" to "not sure".

Remember that your body's "I'm full" signal can be 10-20 minutes late. So slow down your eating and/or drink more water in these situations.

Stop thinking about "stuffed" as the aim - the aim should be "not feel hungry".

I am a diabetic and have high blood pressure and am concerned about all fruit day and all vegie day I have been reading about. Any one else out there that are in the same boat  really really need to do well on this!!! I am 55 years old and need to lose about 30 lbs.  Do you think it would be all right to add in turkey or ham or roast beef to bring up the protien level.  I welcome any and all answers.

As a diabetic, perhaps following the 11 day plan stringently may not be wise for you. Have you considered trying the modified version outlined in the book? I don't think that extreme diets are wise for those with diabetes. That said, your best bet is to speak to your doctor prior to starting any major dietary changes. Please do that and stay safe.

I always drink a large glass of water 20 minutes prior to eating. This way I feel full faster. I tend to get full quickly and if I am aware as I am eating I notice that the food suddenly loses its appeal. For me, that means that I'm done eating.

Hi ray,

Being a diabetic it is always difficult to diet - my husband and sister are diabetic.  My husband has been advised to not do any high protein diets, but rather to eat low glycaemic (spelling?) foods.   My sister however does the Dr. Atkins diet (high protein) without a problem.  I reckon eating fruit for a whole day would not be a good thing.  Why not try modify the diet to include another normal day instead of the fruit day?  Perhaps with Oatmeal and Baked beans (they are both very good for diabetics). You might loose a little slower, but that might not be a bad thing.  On the veggie day, you could do the same thing - they are a week apart.  Both Fruit & Veg are on the right side of your food choices, whilst protein is on the left... indicating these days should not have any protein.  It was good advise though to chat to your Dr.

Regards, Mrs.B

Thank you for the tip about the water-it sounds practical and I'll start doing it today.  How long have you been on the diet?  In your other post you mentioned seeing my doctor about the diet and the book-I'd appreciate any other good tips. Thanks again:tongue:

Thank you for your suggestions, they jogged a memory for me of when I was 19 and first diagnosed.  The docs were trying to keep me off insulin and so my meals were very specific and divided up into 4 or 5 meals.  Always when I ate fruit I had to eat a protien.  I am going to try that on all fruit and all veggie days and see how that goes as well as see the doc. I'll let you know how it goes. Yesterday was good,

the plan has sufficient protein, so as long as you do some regular resistance-training exercises you should be able to retain your muscles.

Ok. So I just joined here. I am at a complete loss. I have 2 children. A 6 yr. old and a soon-to-be 4 yr. old. With my first child, I hit 270 lbs, and that was from 180. I managed to lose every pound of that weight. Then I had my 2nd child. I am now 226lbs. I can' get the weight off. I have been to the doctor to have my thyroid checked. I have bought a treadmill. I watch what I eat. I can't lose 1 pound. Infact, I just keep gaining and gaining. If someone has any idea what I can do...please, help!

Well I am using fat loss for idiots and it is working well for me.  If you have been medically checked out then you could think about medications. Some of them cause weight gain hormones like birthcontrol is a biggie for weight gain.  some antidepressant medications also cause weight gain. Then if you have been calorie restricting then you may not be eating enough as strange as that sounds.  I dont mean eating junk but good nutrition.  The body can hold on to fat if it believes it needs to like in times of starvation.  but truly I am amazed by the fat loss for idiots program. I cant yet decide if it is the healthiest thing i have ever done but it certainaly isnt the worst and it works. good luck to you ! Lisa

How many calories do you eat per day? (assuming that you count calories)

Have you read the Tutorial  yet?

It sounds like you're eating at an appropriate level [it is lower than your unadjusted RMR, which is sometimes a concern, but at the same time this seems to be less a problem if you are obese.]

Are you splitting your eating into multiple meals throughout the day? Are you eating a sufficient amount of protein? are you keeping % of calories from fat at under 25%?

Hi, I queried this in another topic - I have copied the response I received from Nir.

Nutrition information for Pinto beans (tin I have here at home):
per 100g (drained): 115kcal, 5.9g protein, 21.5g carb, 1.1g fat.

By the way, 'baked beans' generally refer to the Haricot variety. I think the answer is yes (irrespective of whether you are including or excluding the tomato sauce that baked beans are typically tinned in).

In general beans all have very similiar nutritional properties.

Hi Lisa, 18 pounds is absolutely great.  Well done!!!  I have been following your progress as I am also doing FL4I, but am not having the success you are.  I am not fazed by this though, as I want to lose my last 11 pounds slowly before going onto some sort of maintenance.  You asked somewhere on the forum if the weight loss will slow down.  I am now on my third phase, and it has slowed with each phase, but it could also be that I am getting closer to goal?  I have a friend who has joined me on the diet, who is losing faster than me, but not as fast as you!!!  She has a little more to lose than I do.  Will let you know her progress... re. the w.l slowing down.

Cheers and keep it up!

Hello,

I am on my 3rd 11 day diet in the WL4I. I have lost 9 pounds each time in the first 2 11 days but this time I have only lost 5. I am doing the diet as it exactly says but no more than 5 pounds. How can I lose more? What else can I do? I don't get any time for exercise as I have a 2 year old and a 3 month old.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

I want to lose about 30 more pounds. I am 139 lbs and am 5 ft tall.

Please help.

have patience

Let's get realistic here. Going by BMI, you were obese when you started, you are currently overweight. losing 9lb every 2 weeks is 4.5lb per week. That is an unrealistic rate of weight loss. It cannot be sustained. Accoring t ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine) it is safe and healthy for men to lose 1-2lb per week, 1-1.5lb for women. That's as far as fat loss goes.

I am presuming here that you wanted to lose fat, please let me know if you wanted to lose muscle mass. It might help to read What It Takes to Lose It All and don't forget to check out the Tutorial

Mrs. Bean,  again you are very helpful, thank you.  Got thru my fruit day with eating sliced turkey with fruit. I felt OK but next time will do other protein meals from another day.  I don't want to upset my blood sugar so much:tongue:  I've lost three pounds and to be honest if I lose 3 to 5 lbs a cycle I will be more than pleased as I feel satiated on this diet

I have 4 children here so I start my day early around 7 most days. I eat right when I get up.  Usually space the first three meals about 3 hours apart but the 4th I eat a bit later in the day so I can eat with the family at a normal dinner meal time. The only other thing I do that I think is helping is----I walk on my treadmill. I cant do a whole hour of walking at once because it is boring . So I walk ten minutes 6 times throughout the day.  Plus I have a good50 pounds  to lose yet and I am sure that makes a difference. That is why I was curious if anyone else has lost alot of weight this way! Thanks for supporting me on my journey Lisa

Looks like I joined about the same time as you--I am betting my weight loss will also slow with the next cycle . 5 pounds is still really good thats over two per week! Not the nine you were hoping for. I know how that goes. I put all this weight on over 5 years but want to take it all off in a month.  I dont think you have done anything wrong on the diet I think it is just a normal slow down.  Lisa

Hi, maybe you can do 10 min 2-3 times a day.  Maybe walk around house while baby is asleep, or holding baby if awake. Anything is probably better than nothing.  Lots of luck, let us know how you do.

I'd alternate weights days with cardio days (you can use water-filled bottles rather than proper weights).  Nothing burns calories like added muscle does.

Don't know that much about the regime, but I see posts about 'fruit-only' days. So, where's the protein come from?

As is generally agreed, it's best to have protein with most meals (if not every one).

I would have thought that, on a low-protein day, there's a better-than-even chance of losing some muscle.  I'd worry if days like that crop up often.

Just musing...

the old plan had a fruit-and-veg day, so you could get your protein from veg (and some people included legumes in that).

the new plan has separate veg-day and fruit-day. The fruit-day has a sandwich, so that's a protein opportunity (but only for one of the meals!). This happens once every 14 days [cycles are 11 days, with 3-day breaks]

Well this is day 5 of my third cycle and I just now lost the four pounds I gained. this cycle is not looking great.  I am a bit ticked at myself for eating so much on the last three day break.  Have also slacked on my walking and water which fyi for everyone has dramatically slowed down weight loss. As of today I will drink the water and do my walking and will see how much I can lose in the last six days of this cycle.

To those who have been on FL4I for awhile....do you notice you're spending more at the grocery store?? If I decide to do this, is it possible to do it on $50-65 a week in groceries?

This topic explains how, if you are still on the old version, you can also access the new version. However, if you signed up after the new version became current, I don't believe it is possible to go back to it. The best you can do is get a feel for what it was like by reading the general discussion thread.

Hi

I actually found i spent less on groceries. The meals are so structured that I had no waste food, as I used all that I bought during the course of the week.

I think you can do this programme no problem on your given budget.

Good Luck

Jules
