I just watched a video on the body bugg. I guess it tells you at any time of day, how many calories you have consumed and many you have burned and how many calories more you can have. So fourth and so on.

Now, how accurate something like that can be, I don't know. If you post in the general section on this forum, you might get more response about it. Maybe someone has one or something.

OK, I will do that thanks for the info.

Today is good. I did not get to walk as much as I wanted yesterday but I did lift pretty hard and also did 100 bench crunches so that was good. Food was pretty good yesterday but could have done without the tortilla chips last night.  Spent 2.5 hours in the doctors office yesterday just so I could get a referal to a podiatrist for this plantars wart on the sole of my foot.  I found out after my 2.5 hours I did not need the referal at all but that is the story of my life...live and learn.  I think lawyers are starting to give doctors a run for their money on who is more considerate of your time.  Anyway I go to the podiatrist today and I hope this does not hinder my walking routine.  Well I have testing this morning and must get rolling so take care and have a great day.

Food Yesterday:

Breakfast- Weight control oatmeal, banana

Lunch- Turkey sandwich on 9 grain org. whole grain bread and 1 serving org. tortilla chips

Dinner- Sushi (24 pieces salmon, one roll with shrimp, cuc, jalapeno inside and spicy tuna and avacado outside)

Snack- 1.5 serving org. tortilla chips with spicy garlic dip

Hi, Coach K.

It's funny - the first time I saw your username, I was reminded of high school. We had a coach with the last name of Kirkpatrick, but I guess that was too much to say, so he was called Coack K. He taught us CPR, but I don't remember exactly how to do it.

That sushi sure sounds yummy - I really need to try it someday. :yum:

Good job, and good luck.

Good morning,

Had another pretty good yesterday. I actually ate two salads yesterday and I think that must be some type of record!!! Went to the podiatrist and he told me I have a cyst on the bottom of my foot, or it could be a plantar's wart he is not sure. the good news is he cut it down and it feels better, the bad news is if it comes back I will have to have it cut out and that would keep me off my feet for a few days.   I actually was upset about that option cause I couldn't do my walking, times have changed ... Other than that excitement I just keep moving forward. It is hard not to be impatient and expect faster results but I know those are meaningless anyway.  i do so much better during the week than on the weekends...I have to get better at that. Anyway take care and have a great day. More later. coach k

I wouldn't get in that mind set about weekends, otherwise you might do worse just cause your thinking you will.

I have done both, right now weekends are not my friend. But, there was a time when weekends- I always did really good at. I think cause I didn't get up as early and didn't have to cook for anyone.

Anyway....good luck to you..

You are probably right about the way I look at the weekends.  I will just try to walk more...lol.

My food for yesterday:

Breakfast- Weight control oatmeal, banana

Lunch- Turkey, salad w/ chopped onions and light ranch

Dinner- Chicken breast w/ salad from wendys...it was suppose to be cesaer but that dressing was just too fatty. 120 cals all from fat. So I stole my wifes oriental sesame dressing and used about half of that plus some of her almonds. (dressing was 170 cals and 90 cals from fat)...Could have been better, but could have been worse too!!!

Snacks- 2 servings organic tortilla chips with spicy garlic sauce.

I am getting better and I actually have to say the food is not tasting too bad right now.  More later. Coach

Yesterday was another good day...I walked for 45 minutes and increased my speed to 3.7 and my incline to 6%.  My official weigh in day is monday but I weighed this morning and I am down 4 lbs this week which makes me feel better about my no change last week :grin::grin:  That gives me a total of 19.5 lbs in just about 8 weeks.  I am pleased with that and I think it is a healthy rate...just over 2 lbs a week.  The first couple weeks were bigger loses so I think that was some water weight.  I can tell you I really feel good and I find myself alot happier !!!  Wife went to the store yesterday and I was so proud of her getting me chicken and turkey and whole grain bread with no HFCS...She is being very supportive and soon i am going to get her to join me although she just needs to get healthy since she is not overweight by very much.  It is really hard to take care of us when we have the little ones who need so much attention.  I wish there was more time for us to just go walk together. Anyway I am off to another good weekend...Coach K

Ok just a quick entry...I was horrible and had 6 chicken wings and a handful of fries which my co-workers brought in for everyone's lunch. Unlike my old self I stopped at one plate and only used a little ranch...I think this is a victory!!!! LOl. After that I went straight to the gym and walked on the treadmill for one hour.  I know the calculations on how many calories you burn can be a little off but it said I burned 835 calories which is the best I have ever done...Then I came home and I have a dinner to attend tonight and I have to wear a tie ...I started trying on some clothes that I have not worn in years and they fit  That was really cool. I have a whole new wardrobe to choose from. Good Stuff!!!  Talk again soon...Coach

I wouldn't sweat it about the chicken, we all have our moments. Just as long as you get back on track, you should be fine.

And hey, chicken isn't the worse thing in the world, at least you didn't pig on a whole box of snickers bar (yes, I have done that :nono:).

Good morning, had another decent day yesterday. For some reason I found myself really hungry yesterday for most of the day. I actually ate like 4 times instead of my normal 3 but it was pretty good stuff.  For breakfast I had my normal oatmeal and banana, for mid-morning lunch I had a turkey breast sandwich and some veggie chips.  About 3:30 pm I had to stop and eat sushi...my all time favorite food which isn't too bad for me (had salmon and rice, and one spicy tuna roll w/ cuc. and avacado) and then last night around 7pm I had a salad with green peppers, green onions, avacado, lite ranch and some sunflower seeds and turkey breast. So I ate more than I have been but it was not a total loss cause it wasn't complete #%@&!.  Anyway I am moving forward.

My thinking patterns are starting to change and I don't fell like quitting every time I slip up.  I just know I have to get back at it for me to reach my goals.  Being more active has really helped and I am actually starting to enjoy my walks.  I think the weight lifting and crunches also helps.  I know with basketball season rapidly approaching that my schedule is going to get tougher and I will have to really work to do what I am doing now but I think I can do it.  It has to be a good sign that I am at least concerned about the keeping it up in the long time frame...lol. Anyway have a great day and I will chat more later...Coach

I struggled a little bit with my food yesterday and had too many snacks last night but not horrible. My wife made pizza last night and she used turkey pepperoni but it still wasn't the healthiest. But it was waiting for me when I got home and it was late and I was tired so I ate 3 pieces. It was good I will say that.  Anyway we move forward. I did play basketball last night for about an hour. I only played 1/2 court but it was a great workout but I am paying the price today. My heels, knees and back are just not use to that kind of impact.  I am pretty stiff today, lol.  Good news is I already had my good oatmeal and banana breakfast and made mself a turkey sand. for my lunch so we are off to a good start today.  Talk more later. Ok, on to another Thursday. Not too bad yesterday. Had some tortilla chips with my chicken burrito last night that I could have done without but oh well.  I am trying to keep my focus where it needs to be and not on all the doom and gloom around the school right now.  We are in the process of making huge budget cuts including getting rid of teachers and some academic programs.  They are trying to get ready for the next round of cuts coming from the state.  They held a school wide meeting with all the staff yesterday just to let us know that this is "for real"...I feel bad for the new teachers who have no idea what is happening.  I told my wife last night that I am really not going to worry about it cause I have zero control over it and it will drive me crazy.  Normally I would be all over the comfort food right now to make it all better...lol.  The worst part is they the students freakin out about are they really cutting band, athletics, art, etc. I guess if they end up cutting everything then it will be ok cause there will be no students left anyway so I may as well go with them.  I am sure it will all work out one way or the other but I just dealing with the panic everyday.  I will holler more later...Coach

I know school cuts really suck. I hate when our school has them. I know for sure if they ever cut the athletics then my son wouldn't go to school anymore. That's about the only thing that keeps him interested in it all. If it wasn't for being in sports, the poor kid would not be able to read, lol. No seriously, he's never been a book worm and it's hard to get him to do his work, but he knows he has to, if he wants to be the sports at school.

Anyway, enough about that. It sounds like your staying on track and it's good that you recognize the signals - like comfort food. Now that you know it, you can change that bad habit.

Good Luck Coach....

Allright, here we go. I am having some real problems getting motivated today.  This whole doom and gloom thing at work is getting seriously old.  Everyone is pointing their finger at everyone else...we should cut your dept. to save money and of course then that person gets #%@&! and fires back.  Just a real positive environment right now...lol. Yesterday was not a great eating day but I almost went to McDonalds last night and then went and got a turkey burger instead...a very good decision I must say.  I did walk the track yesterday for an hour and that was good.  I am really gonna have to watch my food today cause I feel like a binge is coming on.  Talk more soon. I am hopefully done with my binge. I hope you do better then I did. It's funny how things going on in our live affects the way we eat. I know it does for me anyway.

Congrats on not doing McDonalds, that's a hard one. I will be facing Arbys myself tonight. That's where the family always wants to stop at. So, I don't know if I can resist and sit in the van with Arby fumes in my face. lol

Anyway, good luck over the weekend.... stay focused...

Coach, sorry works blows right now, but you're right...it will all work out in the end.

Comfort food for frustration is bad...glad to see you hit the track...I find myself hitting the gym quite often to relieve some of that stress.  Never believed in that before, but I do now...I just feel really good when I'm done.  Sure, work  hasn't changed any, but at least I got in a good workout.  Keep on truckin', Coach!

Thanks cindy and TC... I know you are both right and I am really glad I came back to my diary and read your comments. I also know I must change my habits and understand why I get this way so I can fix it and not continue in my old habits.  As soon as school is over I am going to work out and then we will see how I feel.  Thanks again and take care...Coach

Good morning,

Good news, managed to stay on track over the weekend and hit my first big goal this morning of 20 lbs. It took 9 weeks but it is gone!!!!  I was down another 1.5 lbs last week which is exactly where I want to be.  I had a great workout yesterday which I am sure helped with the old weigh in this morning.  I did 65 minutes walking on the treadmill @3.8 with a 6.5% incline...both new records for me (Time and incline).  The other good news is that I am even more focused and refused to be distracted with all the bs going on at school.  I will write more later but here is the latest weigh in results...

Weight Log

September 1, 2008 – 272.5lbs.(week 1 – Down 4 lbs.) Total – Down 4lbs

Thanks guys... I am really happy with my present progress but I know it also just the beginning.  I really feel like I can keep up what I am doing now for the long haul. I think that is one of the reasons I feel better about things.

Food was pretty good yesterday and I was very active during the day walking over 5 miles but no dedicated workout.  It was a very hectic day but I really miss my walk when I don't get it in ... So we plod on.  I did lift this morning which I have been doing pretty regular in my classes and I really think this one factor that is helping me have success.  Gotta run will write more later...Coach

Breakfast - WC Oatmeal and large banana

Lunch- Boarshead BBQ Chicken breast sandwich on Double Fiber wheat bread w/ horseradish sauce and the largest apple I have ever seen

Dinner- Spicy Tuna Avocado Roll on brown rice, 6 strips greenpepper, 2 servings multi-grain pretzels w/ hot sauce

Snacks- One serving almonds, Healthy pop popcorn (180 cals. Approx)

Well here I am again this morning... All is well in my world. I find that I truly am changing some of my habits. That is really good cause my old habits were a huge part of my problem.  Yesterday I was unable to get a dedicated workout in with my ridiculus schedule, but I found myself walking extra whenever I could and I actually missed my walk. That is a huge change :cool::cool:

I am covering nutrition and fitness in my health classes right now.  I love teaching this unit to the kids. So many of them are already overweight and I can see some of them really listening when we talk in class. I am also showing them the educational version of "Super Size Me" which also opens alot of eyes.  I haven't decided yet how much of my own personal info I am going to share...I will be showing them the software for my pedometer and how many steps I have taken in the last 3 weeks or so.  It is nice to be doing something about my own issues as I try to educate them, I don't feel like such a hypocrite..lol.  I use to do the whole "Do as I say not as I do thing"  Hopefully a few of them listen. I will talk more later...Coach K

Food for yesterday

Breakfast- Two slices of double fiber whole wheat toast w/ almond butter & banana

Lunch- Boarshead Chix sandwich w/ lettuce and horseradish sauce on double fiber bread, green pepper slices

Well the break was great...played golf on Friday and that was really nice and then I took the girls "Trick or treating" and that was really cute.  Had a pretty good weekend but did not get in as much exercise as I wanted to.  Good news is I was down another pound this morning at the Monday am weigh in...down 21 total so far in the last 10 weeks.

I did go to 24 hr fitness yesterday and bought a bodybugg.  I really think it will help me achieve my goals.  It is great to know exactly what I am burning and this thing is suppose to be the most accurate thing out there.  I am really going to try and use it properly and see how things go.  I will keep you posted.  Coach K

That would be great if you could tell us how you like the bodybugg thing after you have used it for awhile. I am curious about it.

Good job, Coach...two pounds  a week is where I'm at...you want it all gone right now, but then realize that 2 a week is 24 every three months and that certainly adds up.  I'm glad you got to get some downtime in...I'll be there soon!  Just keep on truckin' and it'll all be good.

Thanks TC, Cindy and wolfmonk for your support and comments... I have to say I am really excited right now.  I am incredibly busy which is why no post yesterday but I have two great days with Monday and Tuesday (more on that in a minute)...So in my last post I told you I got the bodybugg... I figured out how to use it Sunday and how to get around the website that comes with it.  Starting monday I logged all my food and wore the bugg on my upper right tricep.  After awhile you forget it is even there... I logged everything I ate and here is the results.

Monday - Burned 3604 calories, ate 2083 calories, deficit of 1521 calories (Of my 2083 calories 29% protein, 52% carbs, 19% fat)

Tuesday-Burned 3644 calories, ate 2310 cals, deficit of 1334 cals (25%protein, 46% carbs, 29% fat)

There is so much more info that I am not giving but last night I had only one serning of pretzels because I knew exactly where I was at and didn't want to blow it...Instead of guessing how many cals you burn with the bmr and rmr calculator I know specifics for my body.  It really is awesome and so much better than what I did before. The website for logging cals and food is great and that comes with the bugg for 3 months and then it has a small cost associated with it but I for one am sold. It has a pedometer built in as well and i find it amazing that at 9am in the morning I know I have burned 1312 cals so far today because I lifted this morning.  I honestly think this gadget is going to help me get to the goals I want !!!!  If you can't tell I am really pumped...lol :cool::cool:  Coach

Coach, that thing sounds pretty cool...I may have to look at getting one when I get back home.  Over here, I'm not worried because I know what's working for me and I don't think I'll have to change.  However, when I get home, I know I won't have 2-3  hours a day for the gym, so some changes are going to have to be made.  I'll have to check into that...keep on truckin'!

Yeah, that bodybugg does sound cool. I am not even going to look it up again. I know if I do, I will talk myself into getting one. I am the queen of gadgets.

Anyway, glad things are going good. Keep up the great work...

I'm curious how the stats for the bodybugg are in relation to the ones you'd have calculated manually.  Is there any difference?

Good question wolfmonk...after looking back I found that I actually burn a few more calories than the calculator said I would, but the problem is I have worked out everyday and pretty hard so if I factor that in the calculator would be real close.  I think the biggest thing is it motivates me to burn more calories and then like last night when I usually would have eaten some junk I didn't cause I was sitting on a good deficit and didn't want to blow it.  Between the actuall bugg and the website it rocks.  It is really great for me visually and I just love feeling like I am getting somewhere every day.

TC, I got this because I am at a spot I have been at twice before in the last 4 years and have not been able to go any lower. Both times I lost it and went back to my old habits.  I really want this to be the last time cause I know how hard it is on your body to yo-yo.  I really need the feedback and it really keeps you on track.  When you make the transition back I could see one of these really making a difference.  Anyway something to consider and I am interested to see my results over the next couple of months.  The other thing for me was that basketball season starts in a week and a half and that is by far the hardest time of the year for me to be healthy. Between the stress of games and emotional up and downs that go with them and the ridiculus schedule of 14-16 hours a day, I find it very hard to stay on track.  I have worked to hard to this point to lose it so I got the bugg and a personal trainer once every two weeks to weigh and measure me and give me some tips along the way.  Hopefully my habits are changed for life.

Yesterday was another good day...Burned 3910 cals (New record) and consumed 2376 cals for a deficit of 1534 cals.  I really don't need this big of a deficit as 1000 a day is two lbs a week but I ate alot and I want to make sure if error that it is on the right side. Percentage wise I ate 32% protein (195 g) 42% carbs and 26% fat (only 12g of saturated fat)...I also lifted for 30 minutes and walked on the treadmill for an hour.

Just so you know I found the cal burning scale on the treadmill high by about 200 cals per hour...that sucked, lol.  Have a great day guys...Coach

Thats great that the bugg holds you accountable. You can look at it and decide, yea, I can have that snack or not, lol.

Also, I find that my treadmill always gives me calories burned way to high. It's depressing, cause you get all worked up, then to find out, you really didn't do that much. So, I don't even look at it anymore.

Yea, don't feel bad about bball starting, my schedule will be hectic also, my son plays, so I will have to work in my exercise around his games.... I would imagine that is going to be a tough one for you. Maybe at practice time, you might have to get more involved in the game with the kids, lol.

Ok, gotta go...

Caoch, hang in there with the hectic schedule...500 a day is all  you need for one pound a week, so 800 is good...keep on truckin', my friend!
