I haven't tried it specifically, but have the book.  When I reached the chapter on dieting, I glanced at it and put it down.  It just wasn't for me.  It's all about pretty extreme calorie restriction which is what I am trying to avoid.  To figure out your daily caloric needs, they have you multiply your current weight X 7.  I couldn't survive on that amount of calories for very long, and is not what I would consider a healthy long-term lifestyle.  They go give you excellent meal plan ideas...healthy foods...just not enough of them in my opinion.  Huge fan of the show, though.  I hope this helps a bit.

Well, it is about calorie restriction, but not so much. Idk if that makes any sense. Let me explain:

Right, so most people don't know how many calories they need right this very second to survive at their current weight. Biggest Loser (I chose the Jillian Michael's book, same diff tho) is about calculating the amount of calories you need right now in order to just live at your current weight.  After you have calculated that, you just figure out how much you want to lose in what time frame (the calculators on this site are excellent for that) and you figure out how many calories you should be eating. For example, in order for me to stay right where I am, right now, I am eating about 14,693 calories a week (close to 2,100 cals a day!). In order to lose one pound a week, you have to take away (with diet and exercise) 3,500 of those calories. So that takes me down to 11,193 calories a week. I know for a fact that I can't go below 8,400 calories a week (or 1,200 daily), so I decide on about 1.5 pounds a week and settle for 9,000 cals per week consumption. I do know that I can go as high as 11,193 cals a week and still (hopefully) lose that pound. The other thing is that I spread my calories out throughout the week, so instead of eating the exact same amount of calories each day, I might eat 1,200 on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, 1,300 on Tuesdays, 1,400 on Fridays and 1,500 on Sundays.

Jillian's book also does a body-type thing that helps you know whether you really should be on that low carb or high carb diet. I personally am supposed to eat a 40/30/30 combo.

Point is, I enjoy it. It's easy with the help of this site to help you with calorie counting. It gives you some leeway with the amount of cals every day so you don't get bored. Like you probably are now reading my response.

Anyway, there's my two cents. For what it's worth!

Yes, it definitely is about restriction.  I also have Jillian's book (and dvds lol) - in fact it was thru her reference to this site that led me here LOL.  But her book's guidelines in figuring out how many calories to consume are VERY different than in the Biggest Loser book.  The Biggest Loser diet is severe restriction.  Her book is not.  And it employs the zig-zagging of calories which is widely accepted and I've personally used for quite some time now.  I just didn't want anyone to think both books are based on the same plan, they are definitely not.

OHHHHHHH! So I figured that since she was the red team's trainer that both books would be the same...interesting.

I am feeling really weirded out by all of the measuring/calorie counting/adding/40/30/30 #%@&!. I truly hope it works. I am also doing her workout at the gym...we'll see, we'll see...

Hey!  I know that this post is old but wanted to also put my 2 cents in since I have used this plan.  Last July I joined the online club of the biggest loser and it really helped.  You didn't have to do much thinking in the calorie department.  You logged on in the morning and it told you how many calories, carbs, protein, sodium, fiber, etc you needed for the day based on your personal info.  Also each day there is a daily eating plan.  You can go by this or customize it to fit you.  Each day it tells you what excersices to do ... Some days are cardio & some are strength training.

I lost 26lbs by staying with this plan over a 6 month period of time.  It's great and awesome but it does have a monthly fee of like $20.  Right now money is tight so I'm trying to diet on my own and came across this forum.  I look forward to the help & support here!!!!
