I've lost so much weight in despite of stopping exercise. I've done high-intensity aerobic workouts almost every day for two months, 30 minutes a day, sweated like a pig, and did not lose a pound! After being completely discouraged, I just stopped working out. I was stuck to a plateau of 180 pounds I could not break whatever workout I was doing.
But I did not give up. I kept searching for the truth. I found a link on the net about a guy who says he slimmed down so much thanks to fibers. As they say in nightly info commercial, "I had nothing to lose but the weight!". I was shocked at how easily it is to get 50 grams of fibers per day. I went ahead eating foods containing lots of fibers, like lentils, beans, etc. I finally broke that plateau of 180 pounds. I reached 175 pounds, 5 pounds under the previous plateau.
I thought I was doing good, but hit a new plateau at 175 pounds. I did not get frustrated because I knew that I already broke a plateau, so I thought I could break another one. I then realized that whenever you reach a plateau, it is because there is something you did not understand. I did more research, and found a Youtube video about Dr. Eric Berg, author of the book The 7 Principles of Fat Burning. I found that what he was saying was making a lot of sense. I drove right away to a local bookstore and bought the book!
On his website, see below, you may view some of his videos on the right side of the page. Also you'll notice the four body types on the top. I'm the second one from the left, the guy with the pot-belly. We call him the "Liver type". That guy's liver needs a lot of help. As the liver gets healthier, the weight is coming off. According to the author, the fat production is a survival mechanism because one or more glands are unhealthy. Once they are healthy again, the body has no more reason to keep the fat, so you get slimmer and slimmer. He claims that one should not lose weight to get healthy, but should get healthy to lose weight. As hoped, I did break the 175 pound plateau to reach 168 pounds. These 7 pounds came off within 5 days. I would say that I still have to lose 10 pounds to finally have a flat belly.
In the book there is one piece of advice I would give to any pot-belly guy in this forum: EVERY night, eat a huge bowl of homemade soup with these ingredients: Mostly cawliflower with carotts, celerly, green beans. You may add some rice or lentils if you wish. Add LOTS of herbs like parsley, some sea salt and black pepper. You will be full for the rest of the evening. Unlike other body types, the Liver type does extremely well on veggies, especially cruciferous veggies, but poorly on protein.

The next step is liver healing. I've already started taking one tablespoon of milk thistle and other plants when I wake up in the morning. so that may have helped me as well.
