Instructions for the Food Search Feature

Food Calories & Nutrition Calculator

The Food Search feature is designed to save you time from scrolling through food lists. For example, it makes it easy to find all of the cereals in a list.

The Food Search feature is very simplistic. It searches for a string of up to 25 characters exactly as you enter them, except that it ignores case. It is best described through example:

Cottage Cheese - 2% milkfat

The above food item will be found searching with any of the following search text:

  • Cottage Cheese
  • cottage cheese
  • COTTAGE CHEESE
  • cottage
  • cheese
  • cot
  • c

Searching for "c" is too general and would not be useful as you would find all foods containing the letter "c." However, you have to be careful not to be too specific, either. Searching for "cottage cheese 2%" you would not find the item because you did not include the " - " in your search. Searching for "cottage" would work well.

When you are not sure about a word ending, it is important to leave the ending off. For example, searching for "pastries" will not find "pastry" and searching for "pastry" will not find "pastries." But searching for "pastr" or simply "past" will find both. Search for "cereal," not "cereals."

Do not be surprised if a few foods show up in your search results that you are not looking for. If you search for "pie," you will also find "Rice Krispies"!
