How the Food Calculator Works

Food Calories & Nutrition Calculator

Our calculator simply multiplies the number of servings you specify by the number of calories; grams of protein, fat, carbohydrates and fiber; and milligrams of sodium contained in the food item you select.

In order to calculate the percentage of calories from protein, fat and carbohydrates, the number of grams of each of these macronutrients is first multiplied by the number of calories each gram contains. The multipliers are 4, 9 and 4 for protein, fat and carbohydrates, respectively, as explained in Calories in Protein, Fat and Carbohydrates.
